Governance
run by the community, for the community
OMA is ran for the community, by the community. All decisions are made by consensus, and transparency and openness is key.
Our Policies
Our policies are developed as a community, through open meetings where all have opportunity to input.
These intend to serve as guiding documents for our organisation, and are reviewed annually.

When formed in 2020, OMA was fully volunteer run. However, as furlough ended, the free, unpaid time people could give to OMA reduced, and in 2022 we switched to a small paid staff team, who coordinate our day-to-day operations. These staff are all paid Oxford Living Wage or above, and we active members of the OMA community prior to their hiring.
You can reach the staff team by emailing coordinators@oxfordmutualaid.org.

The Trustees (formerly directors) of Oxford Mutual Aid have legal responsibility for the operations and goals of OMA, providing oversight and direction to the organisation. Each are long-term engaged members of the community who have stepped up to take on additional responsibility, and have been voted in by the community.
The members are a group of 30+ current and former community members who have been strongly invested in the work of OMA. They approve major decisions and help decide OMA’s direction. Any community member can become an official member should they wish!
Members
Although these roles are necessary, we operate a flat leadership structure, incorporating the ideas and contributions of all community members. No one persons input is more valuable than any others, with many of these roles intended to be in name only.
